Who it suits / who it doesn't
"Skin booster" is a general term for injection treatments that place a very small amount of active ingredient in many tiny points within the skin (the shallow layer of the dermis) to improve the condition of the skin itself. Unlike fillers or lifting, which change the shape of the face, the goal is better hydration, texture, firmness and glow.
- You feel tightness right after washing and makeup doesn't sit well because of dehydrated skin
- You are bothered by fine lines around the eyes and cheeks, thinning skin or dull skin texture
- Your skin looks rough because of enlarged pores or shallow acne scars
- You want to support skin recovery and regeneration alongside laser treatments
- You want your skin in better condition before an important event
Types of skin boosters — it depends on what is injected
Water-glow injection (hyaluronic acid)
- Hyaluronic acid, a moisturizing substance naturally found in skin, is injected shallowly to replenish hydration.
- Hydrated skin reflects light evenly, giving a "water-glow" look, and results tend to be noticed quickly.
Rejuran (PN)
- The main ingredient is a purified DNA-fragment component extracted from salmon (polynucleotide, PN). Other products use similar ingredients.
- Known as a "regenerative" skin booster that supports a recovery environment for damaged skin, it is widely used for skin texture, fine lines, thin skin and sensitive skin.
Collagen-stimulating types such as Juvelook
- An ingredient that the body gradually breaks down (PDLLA in the case of Juvelook) is injected to stimulate the skin to produce its own collagen.
- Results appear gradually, aiming to improve firmness, pores and shallow scars.
Exosomes
- These products use tiny substances released by cells. In Korea they are mainly used as an adjunct care applied to or absorbed into the skin after laser or microneedling treatments.
- This is a field still under research, and the level of evidence and approved scope vary by product. If you choose it, be sure to confirm which product is used and in what way (topical or injected).
Skin Botox
- Botox is diluted and injected evenly into the shallow layer of the skin. Its purpose differs from regular Botox, which limits large muscle movement.
- It is expected to help with oil, pores and fine lines, and is often combined with other skin boosters.
Comparison by skin concern — which skin booster suits you?
Even the same "skin concern" can have different causes, and the right product differs accordingly. The table below shows general tendencies; the actual choice is made after a doctor's examination.
| Type | Dehydration | Fine lines | Pores | Firmness | Texture | When results appear |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Water-glow (hyaluronic acid) | ◎ | ○ | △ | △ | ○ | Immediately to 1 week |
| Rejuran (PN) | ○ | ◎ | ○ | ○ | ◎ | Gradually from 2–4 weeks |
| Collagen-stimulating types such as Juvelook | △ | ○ | ◎ | ◎ | ○ | Gradually over 1–3 months |
| Exosomes (adjunct care) | ○ | △ | △ | △ | ○ | Varies greatly |
| Skin Botox | △ | ○ | ◎ | △ | ○ | 1–2 weeks |
◎ Main expected effect, ○ May help, △ Not the main purpose
Injection methods — hand injection vs machine injection
| Method | Characteristics | Advantages | Things to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand injection (manual) | The doctor injects point by point directly with a needle | Fine control of depth and amount by area; good for delicate areas such as around the eyes | Small raised bumps tend to appear distinctly at each injection point |
| Machine injection (injector) | A device with multiple needles automatically injects a consistent depth and amount | Treats a wide area quickly and evenly | Control may be less precise on contoured areas; bruising and dot marks can occur |
Neither is better than the other; the choice depends on the area and purpose. Many clinics use the machine for the whole face and hand injection for delicate spots such as under the eyes and around the nasolabial folds.
Treatment day, step by step
- 1Registration & consultation (about 20 min): your skin condition and concerns are reviewed, and the product, dose and injection method are decided. Your manager interprets.
- 2Cleansing & numbing cream (30–40 min)numbing cream is applied to the whole face to reduce the prickling sensation.
- 3Product checkthe box, label and amount of the product to be used are checked in front of you before it is opened.
- 4Treatment (15–30 min)the product is injected across the whole face, by hand or with a machine.
- 5Soothing (about 15 min)a calming mask or cooling eases redness and warmth.
- 6Heading backyou may have bumps and redness, so bringing a mask or cap makes things easier.
When do results appear, and how many sessions at what interval?
| Type | When you notice results | Typical sessions & interval | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water-glow injection | Right after to 1 week | 2–3 sessions, 2–4 weeks apart | Several months; periodic maintenance |
| Rejuran (PN) | After 2–4 weeks | 3–4 sessions, 2–4 weeks apart | About 6 months after the course (varies by person) |
| Collagen-stimulating types such as Juvelook | 1–3 months | 2–3 sessions, 4+ weeks apart | Often aimed at about 1 year (varies by person) |
| Skin Botox | 1–2 weeks | 1 session, repeated when the effect fades | About 3–4 months |
A typical plan for visitors from overseas
- First visit: diagnosis + 1 skin booster session (together with a laser if needed)
- After returning home: moisturize, use sunscreen, and share photos of the changes
- Next visit (1–3 months later): additional sessions or an adjusted combination
Downtime — when do the bumps disappear?
- Same daySmall raised bumps and redness appear at each injection site. They are more distinct with hand injection.
- Day 1The bumps settle down considerably. With water-glow injections they mostly clear within a day.
- Days 2–3Bumps from Rejuran and hand injection mostly disappear as well. Faint needle marks or small bruises can be covered with makeup.
- Week 1If you had bruising, it fades to yellowish. Your skin starts to feel moist and smooth.
- After 2–4 weeksWith regenerative and collagen-stimulating types, changes in texture and firmness start to appear gradually from this point.

How to confirm an authentic product (please check)
Because the product goes directly into the skin, confirming that it is genuine and the correct amount is important. A properly run clinic will gladly accommodate the requests below.
- Before treatment, check the product name and amount (ml/cc) on the product box and the syringe (or bottle) label.
- Check that a new, sealed package is opened in front of you.
- If the product has an authenticity label or serial number, check it too.
- After treatment, you can ask to see the used syringe or empty bottle.
- If several products are mixed, ask to be told what is used and how much of each.
Aftercare and warning signs
Aftercare
- Avoid washing your face and wearing makeup on the day; from the next day, go gently with mild products.
- Do not rub or massage the injection areas (unless the clinic has instructed otherwise).
- For 2–3 days, avoid saunas, jjimjilbang, hot baths, alcohol and strenuous exercise.
- For about a week, pause exfoliation, peels and retinol products, and moisturize generously.
- Apply sunscreen thoroughly. The air on the plane is dry, so reapply moisturizer.

Good questions to ask at your consultation
- Which type of skin booster suits my concern, and why?
- Which product will be used, how many ml (cc), and is it hand injection or machine?
- Can I see the product opened and the label checked, and the empty syringe after use?
- Will the doctor perform the treatment personally?
- How many days of bumps and bruising should I expect? Will it interfere with my travel plans?
- How many sessions do I need, and when should the next one be after I go home?
Criteria for choosing a clinic
- Whether they examine your skin in person and choose a product for your concern (rather than pushing the same package without a diagnosis)
- Whether they explain the product name, amount and injection method openly and accept requests to confirm authenticity
- Whether they avoid recommending more product combinations or sessions than necessary
- Whether they can communicate in a foreign language and check your progress by photo after you return home
